Frequently Asked Questions about Snoring & Sleep Apnea

How do NoseWings work?

NoseWings work by using the repellent force of strong permanent magnets to widen the nasal airways, thereby making nasal breathing more natural.

Are NoseWings effective?
Yes! NoseWings have proven their effectiveness during extensive clinical testing. There are currently several nasal dilators on the market which can increase nasal breathing to a
certain degree by increasing the distance between the left and right nasal sidewalls and or wing of the nose. However, NoseWings are far superior in terms of efficacy, comfort and durability.

Do NoseWings prevent snoring?
Snoring occurs when inhaled air cannot pass freely through the upper airways, causing vibration of the tissues and muscles in the soft palate and throat. Many factors can cause or contribute to snoring, and a blocked nose is frequently one of them. When this is the case, NoseWings can often reduce or eliminate snoring. However, the extent to which NoseWings are effective will depend on the relative importance of other causes apart from a blocked nose contributing to snoring.

What are the benefits of using NoseWings while practising yoga?
Nasal breathing yields a wealth of benefits. The air inhaled through the nostrils become moistened by the nasal passages, and this moistened air is then better received by the bronchial passages and lungs. The extra time it takes for the air to flow through the nasal passage warms the air further preparing the air for the lungs. The inner lining of the nose contains hairs which assist in removing airborne particles and other foreign matter which can be undesirable for the lungs. Breathing through the nose encourages a slower, more focused breathing so that we can establish a more profound inner gaze and meditative state while performing yoga postures, lying in relaxation or simply enjoying time in meditation.

Can NoseWings be used while exercising?
Yes. NoseWings increases nasal breathing which drives oxygen more efficiently into the lower lobes of the lungs compared to mouth breathing. The lower lobes of the lungs have
the ability to perfuse more CO2 out of the body more efficiently than the upper lobes, which in turn shortens recovery times and increase endurance. Furthermore, nose breathing while exercising can lower the heart rate and breath rate.

Do Nosewings fit on every nose?
Extensive clinical testing and remodelling have led to the final design that fits almost every adult nose. They are pre-formed to fit the majority of people with little to no adjustment. NoseWings can be adjusted by widening, narrowing or changing their curvature to find the perfect fit for almost any shape of nose. However, in some people with very small noses they might not fit.

Are NoseWings comfortable?
Yes! Optimal comfort was one of the main goals while developing NoseWings and is one of the main advantages compared to other nasal dilators. While they might take a little getting used to, after a short time you will barely notice that you are wearing them anymore. They are made of a soft medical-grade polymer and only are in contact with the wings of the nose and not with the much more sensitive nasal septum. Also, they don’t use any adhesive material that may cause skin irritation.

Are NoseWings reusable?
Yes! With proper care, they can be used indefinitely. The repellent magnetic force of the magnets is permanent, and the metal frames and polymer coating are incredibly durable. So unlike external nasal strips, they are not single-use only, and unlike internal nasal dilators, they do not lose their effectiveness over time.

What is necessary to guarantee a maximal length of use?
Don’t lose them! To minimize that chance, we advise you to always use the container when you are not wearing them.

What care is necessary?
Apart from regular cleaning with a soft detergent such as washing up liquid, no special care is required.

When I go to bed wearing NoseWings, I find it much easier to breathe through my nose and have no trouble falling asleep with my mouth closed. However, when I wake up, I sometimes notice one nostril is blocked (whereas before they often both were blocked). When I use NoseWings while running of yoga, this doesn’t happen. How can this be explained?
When you lie down the mucosal lining in the nasal airways may swell, thereby causing congestion and reduced nasal airflow. This occurs mainly at the level of the inferior
turbinates, and usually more so on the side, you lie on. This is called postural nasal congestion and is often more frequently noticed in people with allergies and/or a deviated
nasal septum. So, while NoseWings widen the nasal passages at the level of the nasal valves, thereby greatly increasing the amount of inhaled air that can flow through the nasal
airways, this effect may be partially reduced due to nasal congestion. If you find this is the case, we would advise seeing an ENT specialist and discuss other options available to reduce nasal congestion.
